Are we heading towards a privatization of Nice Airport ?

Macron bill includes among other items the privatization of the Nice International Airport. This project raises many questions from the municipality and Nice citizens. A consultation will be held on February 19, 2015 in Nice to allow citizens to express themselves.

As private transport professional we wonder about the impact privatization would have.

The origin of the privatization

The idea of the privatization of the airport of Nice is coming from the overall project Macron law with numerous measures to replenish the state coffers.

The french government has decided to sell the big regional airports to private companies. It is in this process that a large Chinese consortium has already acquired just under 50% of the shares of the Toulouse Blagnac airport.

Macron law also relates to the Cannes Mandelieu Airport and the airport of Lyon.

Consultation

Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, is strongly opposed to this privatization. It considers that the Nice Airport is a profitable and brings in revenue to maritime Alps.

To send a message to the governement, the municipality of Nice organizes a Consultation Thursday, February 19, 2015 from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. enabling Nice citizens to give their views on privatization.

This consultation will have no direct legal impact, it just allows to people to express their opinion on the subject.

Impacts on our chauffeur service

The impact of privatization of the Nice Airport on users is difficult to estimate. Private companies could eventually facilitate low cost companies more profitable now.

Regarding our chauffeur service activity serving Nice and all the French Riviera, we will continue whatever happens to provide an excellent service at the best price to all our customers.

Whatever the outcome of this consultation and the decision of the government, Cabooking guarantees all its users the sustainability of its transfer from Nice Airport.
