The history of Castle Hill Park

The park owes its name to the castle of Nice which once defended the city against the multiple invaders coming from different kingdoms and duchies during the Middle Ages. This citadel was a real fortified town, but it was destroyed in 1706 by the armies of King Louis XIV then at war with the Dukes of Savoy.

The castle hill park was opened in 1830 on the ruins of the citadel it inherited from the name. Today it is a shady park very appreciated by Nice people and tourists.
